2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to lead the development team at their internal studio, which is currently working on the forthcoming over-the-shoulder roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.
Management Transition Comes After Lukewarm Reception
The new appointee takes on the leadership position at the development studio following the exit of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' lackluster initial reveal last fall.
Recently, the company's top executive David Ismailer notified team members about this organizational change through an internal memo, which stressed that playtesting had revealed the necessity for a more defined vision.
Ismailer noted that the developers is now refining the project with a revised vision, aiming to address gamer demands.
Trend of Strategic Recruitment
This announcement follows a comparable action taken by the publisher in August, when they recruited an industry veteran from Blizzard to assist with the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.
Below is the entire text from the president's communication:
Team—
I know you all just finished your town hall - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Last time I sent you all a note, I expressed the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most driven and innovative designers we have had the chance to collaborate with - and we’re looking forward for that partnership to endure.”
Given your hard work and versatility, especially over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.
The gamer responses from last autumn’s Project ETHOS testing phase was informative. It validated the promise of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had refinements needed. It uncovered the need for a more distinct brand.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You accepted the input to consideration and overhauled the title with a refreshed goal - one that’s ready to achieve its promise to our fans.
The belief in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To advance the incredible advancement you’ve made, I’m excited to announce Ben Brinkman as the incoming Studio Head of the team. Following a period of discussions, Ben officially joins us on Monday, October 20.
Ben’s management and expertise in the competitive gaming genre is considerable, having devoted the recent years developing and managing some of the most well-known franchises in gaming, for example the acclaimed shooter, and lately, Apex Legends.
Let’s together in greeting him in the coming days. We are all eager to keep witnessing the evolution of the game in the time to come.
David
